Those Words You Know

Well, here we are in 2022. Happy New Year!

Today I found myself using a word to describe a friend that came to me a few days ago for another friend — INDOMITABLE.

Source: Merriam-webster.com

It’s a word I never say out loud, but really should. I’ve seen it in books through the years. But somehow, the level of resilience and “rise” that I see in people during these challenging times — and even have seen in myself — is unlike any other season I’ve experienced. The times demand it. I don’t think most of us asked to be as strong as we’ve had to be. But here’s what I want to say to you about it:

Thank you for being who you are and pressing through whatever came your way in 2021! The rest of us are better for it!

-Would you join me in a challenge, to expand our speaking and writing vocabulary with courage and abandon? There’s something freeing and necessary there!

That word “indomitable” coming up twice in a week made me realize, there are many WORDS I keep in my mental collection but never let them out verbally or in writing. Why? Probably because they feel too “bookish,” too much like they are words for impressing folks. And no one likes that for its own sake. But what if there’s more? What if there are certain words that are the ONLY way to precisely capture what is happening, where we are, or how someone is showing up in the world? So I declare to you, LET’S UNLEASH THE WATERFALL of WORDS!! If we don’t use our words now, when? This year let’s be as expressive as we need to be and as the times require. Those locked-away words have been waiting for us…

Comment below if this speaks and you know you’ve let your words live too small in times past…but are now ready to flow! Use those words you know!
